This is a good bike for the money, but a few things I experienced:

All bikes will need adjustment from the factory. Mine shifted right out of the box, but not cleanly. It took some fine tuning to get it right. Budget a few bucks for a bike shop to do this if you re not comfortable doing it yourself. No bike is going to come out of the box ready to go.

This bike is not a great setup for light trail riding which is what I ended up mainly using it for. Its on the heavier side and the tires are very knobby which add considerable riding resistance. If you re looking to get a work out, this is fine, but be prepared to have to work extra hard to keep up with your riding buddies or other people on the trail. I replaced my tires with urban style tires and this helped tremendously.

This bike is a mountain bike, and as such, has a bent over, not-so-comfortable riding stance for long-distance riding. Again, if you re mainly going to be doing light bike trails like me, this might not be the best bike for you. I bought a stem riser which raised the handle bars 3" and this also helped out tremendously.

The rear suspension takes up valuable room for things like a second water bottle or rear rack.

Cliffs: For the price, I am very happy with this bike. New tires and a stem riser transformed it into a much more livable multi-purpose bike.

Bought this bike for my 15 year old sons birthday. He loves it because it had all the features he wanted; dual suspension, disc brakes, light weight. I am happy cuz he s happy and it didn t cost as much as the bikes at the expensive bike shop where he was looking....

Haven t used a bike since my mid teen years and never put a bike together, order this bike after several weeks of researching and it s great and easy to use, packaging was very good and putting together was not hard at all, the only part that you have to put attention to is the front brake system but once your done is a great trail bike, have used it on street for about a week before taking to the trail and it s been great the seat could be more comfortable on street it tends to get uncomfortable on a 1 or 1 1/2 hour ride but on the trail the bike is as fun as it gets, ride with some friends and with their bikes I noticed that when they brake on trail their bike brakes lock and the bike starts sliding all over the place but with this bike you brake and it stops, the lower gears are fantastic to get you trough the steep areas and you can really feel the suspension working on the way down it s pretty cool, it fast, responsive and very sturdy, I think this is the best investment I ve done to get me back in shape, On street my biddies mountain bike seams a bit faster on the high gears but I don t know if is the bike or the fact that I m completely out of shape, but I was able to keep up better on the trail.

I 100% recommend this product for anyone that is in the market for a mountain bike, hope this helps.

I bought the GMC Topkick and installed a GEBE 40cc Tanaka engine kit, after a couple hundred miles it has held up surprisingly well. The only problems I have had are 1.The brakes have glazed and squeal loudly 2. the engine worked the spokes loose on the rear wheel. Not bad considering I average around 23mph, topping out on level ground at about 31-32 mph. After the spokes worked loose I retightened them and loctited them, no problems since. I am tough on bikes and this one takes the punishment better than any other bike I have owned. If you dont have good fabrication skills I dont recommend trying to put an engine kit on this bike, but if you can fabricate, GO FOR IT!

My fiance and I are avid road cyclists, but wanted MTBs to ride on the trails. After researching MTB s, we decided on the GMC Topkick for her because it received decent customer reviews and offered the most in terms of features, such as alloy frame, dual-suspension and dual disc brakes. We found other MTB s offering similar features, albeit brand name w/ higher end componentry, costing $500+. At $250 w/ free shipping from Amazon.com, the GMC Topkick, manufactured by Kent Bicycles, was too good a deal to pass up. As others reported, the included assembly instructions aren t helpful as they are generic and not specific to assembly of this bike. Since the bike comes 85% assembled, it wasn t too difficult to figure out where things go, and if you re unsure of something, there are plenty of videos available on [...] for reference. After I removed all of the packing material and tape, assembly took about 2.5 hours, which included removal of the knobby tires and replacing them w/ more street worthy tires. It s built like a tank, and at 38 lbs, it s heavy, but at this price point, that was expected. To shave weight, we ll lose the kickstand, reflectors and change the seat post and saddle for alloy and a racing saddle. The front forks can t be locked down and there s more plastic on the bike than I d like to see. I rate the quality of the componentry on this bike as marginal, and not great, so I don t expect my fiance will get more than a few years out of this bike without having to replace something major, up to and including the bike itself. All and all, for the dollars spent, I think it s a good MTB for recreational road and light trail use.

After searching many places for a bike to replace the one stolen from my 15 year old daughter, we figured this GMC Topkick would be good enough. We were delighted to find that this one is better than the Specialized that was stolen. Even my husband was pleased as he put it together for her. He had never before seen a bicycle with disc brakes and called some of his friends to tell them about it. He had been concerned because we ordered it online without his checking out the physical bike. However, we are all happy with the Topkick and my daughter is happiest of all since she can now win some of the races with her neighborhood friends. This bike is just the ticket for a girl who thought she would have to spend $400-$700 to replace her old bike. Thanks Amazon!

Like many other owners have said, it really must be "adjusted" at a bike shop for optimal use. The front brake takes some adjusting to sit just right and I personally had to rip off the plastic cover by the rear gears to keep the chain from catching, but after all this, I am still happy with the bike, seeing that others would have cost me $600 and up. I ve taken this bike down trails at 35mph, jumping every bump on the way down, and as long as you keep the chain taught in a high gear and tighten all the bolts down well, you will have no problem. If it can handle the trails that I take it down in IL and MO, it should do just fine for most riders. I saw simalarities in the design of this bike to some Ironhorse models ranging from $1k to $3k, and that did it for me. Here s a pic of the bike in Shilom Springs State Park.

I was looking for a bike to ride while on my beach weekends and vacations. I like everything about the bike except for two items: 1)the disc brakes need much adjustment to get them to not drag on the rotor, especially the front. 2)the derailler on the pedal sprocket needs A LOT of adjustment to shift up and down properly. I considered upgrading to an expensive pro model derailler but finally got this one to work.

This is good bike for the price. It is a little more heavy than other more expensive mountain bikes. Easy to assemble. Gears will need adjustment.

I recently purchased this bike after doing much research and reading the other reviews. The bike arrived in a timely manner. BUT, the rear derailleur was bent catywhampous. And there were two scratches on the bike, but I can live with em. I called Amazon and they resolved the matter with sending me a whole bike in which to take the part and replace with mine. They cover the shipping both ways and I should be getting it quicker than the original purchase. I am of course impressed. Though I will be having it put together by a bike guy. I did put the first one together in no time at all until it came time to adjust the deraileur, that was 4 hours. Luckily, I have other bikes at the house, and yes the the derailleur was bent. Overall, for the price and time it is worth the price. I would have had to spend twice the price locally, I ll live with older but quality parts. The bike is mainly for transportation and exercise. This could have been avoided with better packaging, wouldn t it be cheaper than sending another bike? My only question is...did they send me a previously returned bike? THX

pros: well built, disk brakes

cons: heavy, rear suspension is so stiff that its useless, disk brakes will require some tuning out of the box

overall its a good bike for the money. for those looking to do some serious long distance riding i d recommend looking elsewhere for a lighter bike.

I got this because I wanted to take rides with my daughter and I didn t trust my cheap old rusty bike. Along with the GMC Topkick I got the iBert Safe-T Front Mounted Child Bicycle Seat. The seat didn t have enough clearance to attach to the stem at first so I ended up buying this stem raiser Delta Alloy Bicycle Stem Raiser. It was simple to setup and worked beautifully. Provides a smooth ride and plenty of room for both me and my daughter. I m 5 11" and I pedal the bike exactly as I would if the seat wasn t there, I don t have to bow my legs out at all. My only complaint is that the disc brakes came a little warped, I plan on taking it to a bike shop at some point to have the wheel rims and disc brakes trued.
